The General Post Office is the largest post office in West Bengal and the main post office in Kolkata, India. Since 1727, this post office was India's first post office. The majority of mail and packages in and out of the city are handled by the post office. The GPO's massive building, which is located in the B. B. D. Bagh neighborhood, is one of the city's icons.
Kolkata GPO is one of five Philatelic Bureaus in the nation authorized to sell United Nations stamps, along with Mumbai GPO, Chennai GPO, Parliament Street, and New Delhi GPO.
