Alappuzha is gearing up to host the 71st edition of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race (NTBR) on Punnamada Lake this Saturday.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the event at 2 p.m. A total of 75 boats, including 21 majestic chundan vallams (snakeboats), will line up for the competition across multiple categories. Alongside the snakeboat race, contests will be held in churulan, iruttu kuthi ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’, veppu ‘A’ and ‘B’, as well as thekkanodi thara and thekkanodi kettu classes. To ensure precision, the regatta will feature modern starting systems and photo-finish technology.
