Indian Railways has approved the entry of major single-brand food chains—including McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Baskin Robbins, Haldiram’s and Bikanerwala—inside railway stations, expanding premium dining options for passengers.
The move follows an update to the 2017 Catering Policy, creating a new Premium Brand Catering Outlet category as the fourth stall type at stations. As per a 13 November 2025 circular, licences will be allotted only through e-auctions and will run for five years. Financial terms stay under existing policy rules, and railway zones can approve outlets based on passenger demand and available space.
The initiative aims to boost food choices, especially at major stations.
